Q: Slower Physically & Mentally - Side Effect?
My husband has been diagnosed bipolar. He had an aneurysm in the brain 19
months ago. Was given venlafaxine 150mg per day. This made him manic. We then
changed doctors and he has been on priadel and zispin 30mg. since, I feel he
has become alot slower physically and mentally, is this possible, is it a
side effect? He needs to be able to function more sharper for his business.
Please advise.
Thank you
Dear Ms. A' --
For U.S. readers, priadel is a form of lithium; and zispin is mirtazapine (U.S.:
"Remeron").
Which one of these could be causing the slowing?
Unfortunately, it could be either. Fortunately, there are good alternatives to
both: other
mood
stabilizers besides lithium; and many other antidepressants (plus, some
doctors would proceed to try to avoid the antidepressants, so it should not be
assumed that the antidepressant has to be replaced, if it looks like that's a
big part of the problem).
